Introduction
Erdinger is the world’s largest wheat beer brewery. Since 1886, the company has been producing premium-quality beer exclusively in Erding, Germany.
For many years, Erdinger has trusted Domino’s CO2 laser technology for printing variable data on the labels of its beer bottles.
“Domino has always offered premium support—that’s one of the key reasons we rely on its laser systems,” says Erdinger's maintenance specialist.
At the Erdinger production site, up to 165,000 bottles are filled every hour.
To maintain the production pace, Erdinger relies on a highly automated and centrally managed system. To print production data, a solution is required that integrates seamlessly with the existing ERP infrastructure.
The Challenge - integration into the existing infrastructure, delivering excellent codes at high production line speeds
Each filling line at Erdinger operates at speeds of up to 60,000 bottles per hour. Production data is laser-coded onto metallised labels, and this requires high energy levels due to the reflective foil surface. Additionally, when exporting beer, many countries mandate larger, three-line codes.
When trialling Domino’s Dx1060i 100-watt laser, Erdinger’s production team was quickly convinced. By delivering excellent code quality across all speeds, the Dx1060i can not only meet current demands, but also provides power reserves for future requirements.
But how much disruption would installing the new laser coder on a production line cause? The team at Erdinger was concerned about downtime and potential trouble when switching from an older 60-watt D-Series laser to Domino’s new state-of-the-art 100-watt Dx1060i CO₂ laser. Its main concern was not about the hardware integration, but about a complex software integration with the automated ERP system requiring multiple vendors and taking up time and resources.

The Dx1060i - a plug-and-play solution
Despite the initial concerns about integration, the Dx1060i installation proved to be effortless. The Domino team connected the laser to the ERP system without third-party support, ensuring a smooth transition.
Remote diagnostics adds even more reliability and helps to further minimise downtime. When Domino’s helpdesk once called to fix an issue before it even became a problem, Erdinger's maintenance specialist was pleasantly surprised.
"Domino handled the entire ERP integration seamlessly. Replacing the printer on the production line was truly plug-and-play. Domino's premium support makes them a trusted partner," says the team at Erdinger.

Great beer deserves great technology and with the Dx1060i, Erdinger is ready for the future.
At Domino, we are proud to be part of their journey; cheers to Erdinger!
